Yes, I love to travel somewhere to see different places of the world. In simple worlds, I can’t live without travelling. I usually use my car for transportation. But on that day I chose a mass transportation just for a change. I was placed on the last row and I couldn’t find any seat belt. The bus started running towards the destination. It was bit a long distance so I went asleep in an hour of travel. At one moment, the driver made a sudden break as a rabbit crossed the road. Oh my god! My head banged on the front seat. I suffered an acute pain and got big swell on my forehead. Few other passengers on the bus also got the same injury. We were scolding the driver for making a sudden break. He apologized for doing that and said that he had no other options. One of the co-passengers gave the tiger balm red to us to apply on the swell. Only half the bottle remained. So we used very small amount for each. I also took my part and applied on the swell in my forehead. What a miracle! Within the travel time we were all cured from our pains. The man who gave us the tiger balm explained the properties and the history of the balm. I bought the tiger balm immediately when I got down the bus. Thereafter, I never miss to take tiger balm whenever I go for travel.

I have been a body builder for years. I am running 50 now. But I don’t look like 50 as I have a well-built body. I used to work out hard in my early stages of bodybuilding career. But now I can’t workout as before as I am aged. In my long career I used many medications for warming up my muscles. Muscle warm up is very important for every bodybuilder. There are lots of benefits by warm ups. If we warm, it increases the heart rate and enables oxygenation to all muscles. So our muscles will not get fatigue after the workout. It also allows the joints to move more easily. But we need a good medication to support the warm up process. Tiger boxing liniment is the perfect supporter for warming up muscles. It has some powerful ingredients such as Methyl Salicylate, Menthol and Eugenol. When we apply it on our muscles, it uncourageous the blood flow and make the muscles brisk even after heavy workouts. I am being a trainer for young body builders now. They get tired after workouts. So I have ordered all my boys to use tiger boxing liniment when they warm up their muscles. I can see the boys who use the oil in their warm up perform well than the others. I recommend this product to all the body builders.

It has several powerful ingredients to cure the pain. They are Camphor, Menthol, Cajuput oil, Clove oil, Cassia oil or Cinnamon oil. Let us discuss about the two ingredients Camphor and Menthol in detail:
Camphor:
Camphor is an aromatic odor extracted from the wood of a tree named Camphor laurel. This tree is only found in the Asian countries. Particularly Taiwan and Borneo are the countries planting this type of trees in large numbers. Camphor is also found in the rosemary leaves. Camphor is a traditional ingredient used Chinese medicine to treat the inflamed muscles and bones. Particularly it treats the rheumatism very well. It creates heat on the affected area to fight against the pain. It also increases the blood circulation and cures the swell, sprain and other injuries. It is also an effective ingredient of tiger balm in treating the insect bites and other skin allergies.
Menthol:
Menthol is a waxy compound collected from the mint oils such as peppermint oil. Its chemical structure shows its pure stereoisomerism. So it gives cooling sensation when rubbed on the skin or inhaled. It is also popularly known for its anesthetic character. It has the powerful properties to arrest the voltage sensitive sodium channels and to stimulate the muscles. It also acts as a weak KOR (K-Opioid Receptor) which soothes the pain in neurons. Menthol is largely extracted from the natural plant “Pudina” (wild mint) from the Uttar Pradesh state of India.

Like the color, Tiger balm red is very effective and hot on the skin and cures the pain in a short period of time. The tiger balm was first discovered by Chinese chemist Aw Chu Kin in Burma. The two basic types of tiger balm is tiger balm red and white. Compared to tiger balm red, white tiger balm is less powerful which will give cold sensation when applying on the skin. Tiger balm can also be used to warm up the muscles before body exercise as it will provide relaxed feeling to the muscles. Tiger balm is in the form of ointment with mixture natural herb extract like camphor oil, cajuput oil, clove bud oil and menthol as its ingredients. The ailments like arthritis, rheumatism, muscular & joint pains, neck & back pains, can be well treated with this ointment. Unlike the past, tiger balm products are available in different combinations and mixtures of the various natural herbs and some of them are
Tiger balm soft can be used for insect bites and headaches.
Tiger balm liniment oil that can be used for gentle body massage
Tiger Muscle Rub is a non greasy cream that can be used for body pain.
Tiger Neck and shoulder can be used for pain in shoulder and neck.
Kwan Loon Oil can be used for arthritis and back pain.
Tiger Medicated plaster can be used on any painful parts of the body.
Tiger Back pain patch is exclusively manufactured to treat back pain at work.

In August 2010, Chinese researchers in Chongqing have detected by studies in rats that capsaicin has a relaxing effect on blood vessels and thus lowers blood pressure. The continuous intake of capsaicin through food in the experimental animals had an increased release of nitric oxide; Nitric oxide is important for blood circulation and relaxation the blood vessels and thus acts to lower blood pressure. So when you first use Tiger balm, it basically starts by heating up the muscles in the surrounding area by increasing the blood flow to that area and also in turn increasing the total oxygen supply to the affected area. However, within just a couple of minutes, the procedure goes in reverse mode and tiger balm slowly decreases the blood flow to the area and that is how it takes care of the swelling and the pain sensation.
Apart from the ability to create a numbing sensation, Capsaicinoids also has the ability to protect your skin because it has excellent antimicrobial properties. So, tiger balm which is equipped with Capsaicinoids is not only capable of reducing the pain sensation and decreasing inflammation, but also capable of protecting the skin from chances of further infection. So, it basically doubles up as a pain reliever and skin ointment.
It would be pertinent to mention here that tiger balm not only contains Capsaicinoids but also contains menthol. Now, the latter is commonly used to create a cooling effect, but in the case of tiger balm is actually used to somewhat reverse the action of Capsaicinoids a couple of minutes after application. Tiger balm simulates the action hot pepper on the skin and that is responsible for creating the numbing sensation; but you simply cannot afford to have the same effect continued for over a couple of minutes because your skin would not be able to take so much heat and eruptions might start appearing. This is where menthol comes into play – menthol basically combines with Capsaicinoids and takes off the sting that is only required initially. However, the heating capability of Capsaicinoids does not get compromised and it continues to ease off the pain without getting too hot on the skin.

They have an antibacterial and antifungal activity and thus act preservative. What does that mean? Well, tiger balm is not going to be washed off every time your skin comes in contact with water and hence the effect it has is long lasting. The antibacterial and antifungal properties protect the affected area from further infection.
Capsaicinoids stimulate the nerve endings of certain receptors that normally transmit “pain sensation” seen during exposure to heat or chemical stimuli. The similarity of the sensation of “hot” and “sharp” is at the receptor level is justified as: Capsaicin binds to the TRP – channel TRPV1 , which is also responsible for increasing the temperature. The often painful (but only apparent) heating sensation due to capsaicin on the skin is caused by increased blood flow against the tissue for the purpose of heat dissipation; thereby it creates a local redness along with a slight burning sensation. However, it has the opposite effect when combined with menthol (as in candies), which seem cool with a comforting heat at the same time. Since Tiger balm also contains menthol, the curative effect of Capsaicinoids remains unaltered, but the “heat” part is toned down considerably.
Capsaicinoids are traditionally used in relatively high concentrations in Mexican, Indian and Indonesian foods to utilize their effects on the serotonergic and dopaminergic balance in the nucleus – it numbs the pain and also has a pain absorbing effect. That explains why a Tiger balm treated areas seem stronger than other areas of the body – it can simply absorb more trauma! This allows a degree of tolerance formation toward Capsaicinoids and the body responds by increasing its endurance level.

It is irritating to mammals, including humans, and produces a burning sensation in any tissue that it comes in contact with. Capsaicin and several related components are called capsaicinoids and are produced as a secondary metabolite by chili peppers, probably as a barrier against herbivores. The pure capsaicin is a hydrophobic compound, colorless, odorless, crystalline fatty acids.
Now, why are we talking about this weird chemical compound? Well, first of all this is not a weird compound – it’s a hundred percent natural compound that has the capability to initiate numbness in local tissues. Let’s cut the chase – we need to discuss it because Tiger balm is one of the few medicines that contain this compound in its natural form and its effect is put to good use in combination with other herbs to increase the pain threshold of the body.
Characteristics of the substance
Capsaicin is present in large quantities in the seeds and fleshy fruits of plants of the genus Capsicum. Such fruits typically evolved to assist in seed dispersal by attracting animals that eat fruits and swallow the seeds, which pass through the digestive tract and are subsequently deposited elsewhere. So it’s kind of paradoxical that the plant does so much to create fleshy looking fruits that only contain seeds that are non-friendly to mammal taste buds.
The seeds of Capsicum plants however are predominantly dispersed by birds, in which capsaicin acts as an analgesic rather than an annoying substance. The seeds of chili peppers pass through the digestive tract of birds without damage, while those consumed by mammals do not germinate at all. The presence of capsaicin in Tiger balm therefore protects affected organs and the hot sensation creates a wall around the nerve junctions to prevent the passage of “pain signal”. How’s that for innovation?

Tiger balm was actually developed as a pain medication more than 100 years ago in China by a chemist for treating painful conditions of senior political leaders in China. It used to be 100% natural product and contained natural derivatives of organic products such as camphor, menthol, peppermint and clove.
Over the years, scientists have been able to find out the reason behind the working of Tiger balm – the ingredients in Tiger balm actually function like salicylic acid and that is capable of heating up muscle fibers and increasing pain threshold of the body. Now, let’s take a look at the difference between Vicks and Tiger balm. If you have a nasal congestion, Vicks would be able to work, but Tiger balm works better because the heating effect of Tiger balm is better. By applying Tiger balm on the chest and throat areas, you would be able to inhale the heat emitted by the high levels of camphor and menthol contained in Tiger balm and that is going to clear the nasal blockage. Vicks is definitely an excellent product, but many people have reported that it causes addiction; whereas, Tiger balm is hundred percent natural and does not cause any kind of addiction but is able to offer the same benefits. Apart from creating a heating effect that can eliminate the nasal congestion, Tiger balm is also capable of removing the pain associated with cough and cold by increasing the pain threshold of the body. The effects might not be permanent, but if you continue using Tiger balm for a couple days, you will definitely find yourself in a better situation without having to worry about side effects.

There are a lot of different medications available over the counter, but unfortunately the downside to these medicines is that they need to be taken in more and more quantities with the progress of time and sometimes they also have serious side effects. In a matter of fact a couple of research is conducted over the last couple of years have clearly proved that arthritis medications taken over a period of time can actually make the medical condition worse. However, if you are suffering from arthritis or similar conditions you cannot afford to stop your medications because the pain is simply unbearable and people who do just about anything to get back control of their life.
Tiger balm could be a very good substitute for all those arthritis medications that create long-term complications. Tiger balm basically contains a mixture of camphor, peppermint, menthol, clove and cajeput. The last ingredient is capable of increasing blood flow beneath the surface of the skin and reduce inflammation and pain. Tiger balm is considered an excellent treatment for arthritis because it works by heating of the muscle fibers and increasing the pain threshold of the body without creating side effects. You just need to apply Tiger balm gently on the affected areas and your pain is going to disappear within just a couple of minutes after application. There are a couple different varieties of Tiger balm available on the market and although it is mainly considered as a muscle relaxant, it worked wonders in arthritis pain because the pain sensation from the affected area is not able to get across to the brain and hence the brain also stops fighting and creating further complications.

We are not unaware of the benefits of Tiger balm and almost every family in the country has experienced the benefits offered by Tiger balm of at some point in time or other. Tiger balm was actually accidentally discovered by a renowned pharmacist and scientist in 1870 after being persuaded by his neighbors to create a concoction that would be able to take care of all kinds of pain that affected the senior Chinese leaders. During those days, Tiger balm was manufactured using different derivatives of organic oils and herbs and it was actually considered as the best treatment for pain management. It is not until the last couple of years that scientists have been able to unearth the major ingredients in Tiger balm – the most active complement of Tiger balm is salicylic acid and it is capable of heating of the muscle fibers when applied locally. The earlier versions of Tiger balm used to contain camphor, clove and menthol and these have the inherent property of increasing the pain threshold of the body.
Some of the most common therapeutic uses of Tiger balm include:
Muscle Pain – Even today, Tiger balm is considered one of the best treatments for muscle pain. Tiger balm works by heating of the muscles and the brain gets an information that the affected area does not need to be attended to and hence the inflammation of joints and tendons come down considerably after application of Tiger balm and the muscles also get relaxed.
Migraines and headaches – In this is also, it is the elevated pain threshold of the body that significantly reduces the sensation of pain and since this is just a topical ointment, there are absolutely no side effects.
Insect bites – This is a rather uncommon indication, but Tiger balm works well in such conditions also. It works by reducing inflammation and itching.
Cough and cold – The heat generated by Tiger balm removes nasal congestion and facilitates better breathing.
